Stuart (Stu) Alan Baum passed away on Jan. 2 at the age of 76 after a valiant three-year struggle with renal cell carcinoma.

He was born on May 16, 1947, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Evelyn Lewis Baum and Dave Baum. Stu’s teenage years were spent being very active in the B’nai B’rith Youth Organization, where he was president of Nordaunian AZA and beau of Heart of America BBG. Stu was a member of Moshie 4, a small singing group that entertained at retirement homes.

Stu attended the University of Missouri in Columbia. During his college years, a mutual friend set up Stu and Sue Hess on a blind date. Sue was attending the University of Texas in Austin, and after months of both of them flying back and forth to be together, they got engaged and married on Aug. 9, 1969.

Stu spent his career in sales and built many lasting friendships. He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan and enjoyed fishing, golf, bowling and bicycling. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and his dog, Bailey.

Stu was preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn and Dave Baum; sibling, Paula Feldman; mother and father-in-law, Bebe and Carl Hess; and nephew Robert Nathan Hess, Jr.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Sue; his children, Stacey and Brad Uffelman and Lauren and Darren Baum; grandchildren Eric and Scott Uffelman and Lily and Charlie Baum; sisters and brothers in-laws, Bonnie and Mike Grossfeld and Cindy and Robert Hess; and nieces and nephews Ashley and Marc Grossfeld, Meredith and Jake Jopling, Emily and Brett Luskey, Bill Hess, Heather and Wes Joyce, and Nia and Bryan Weaver.

A memorial service was held on Jan. 7 at Congregation Emanu El in Houston, Texas.
