Herbert (Herb) Parmet, 77, of Leawood, Kansas, passed away peacefully at home on May 20, 2023, surrounded by family at his side.

He was the oldest of twin boys to complete a family of five with his older brother in New York. Growing up, his parents owned a Jewish overnight summer camp, Camp Osceola, in North Carolina. He spent many summers as both a camper and staff member when he participated and led many summer activities including archery and horseback riding.

Herb attended the University of Minnesota where he earned his bachelor's and master's degrees. He met his wife, Idie, a fellow student at the University of Minnesota, whom he married in 1969. They had three children, Lori, Staci, and David, who were his pride and joy. He relocated to Kansas City in 1980, where he was an active member of Kehilath Israel Synagogue for over 40 years. His innate ability of always making everyone in the room feel comfortable and welcome was a natural fit for his professional career of providing consulting services to corporations to improve their interpersonal relationships.

Herb adored his children and grandchildren. He was especially proud of their academic achievements and cheered them on while they participated in their various sporting activities. He was always encouraging and supportive, win or lose. Throughout his life, he was physically active and especially loved playing sports with his grandchildren. He lifted weights at the Jewish Community Center and played pick-up basketball games at the synagogue well into his 60s.

Herb's sense of humor could always put a smile on your face. He had a talent for writing poetry. He was a lifelong learner of a wide variety of subjects and stayed up to date on current events. He was passionate about his favorite local sports teams. He was humble and kind. Herb will be deeply missed by his family and community.

Herb is survived by his wife, Idie Parmet, and his three children, Lori Gold (Mitchell), Staci Zimmerman (Mark), and David Parmet (Mindy). He adored his six grandchildren, Kyle Gold, Ryan Gold, Maya Parmet, Abby Gold, Justin Parmet, Sydney Zimmerman.

Funeral services were held on May 23, 2023, at Louis Memorial Chapel. Burial followed in Kehilath Israel Blue Ridge Cemetery. Kindly omit flowers; the family suggests contributions to American Cancer Society or Kansas City Hospice.
