Pola Greenwald

Pola Greenwald, 89, died Sept. 16 from complications of multiple myeloma. Pola died at home in Leawood. Born Pola Gorsky to Zelda and Morris Gorsky on March 18, 1931, in San Francisco, she was raised in Petaluma, California, where she graduated from high school. She attended the University of California at Berkeley, where she met her future husband of 54 years, Gilbert S. Greenwald.

Pola and Gil moved to the Kansas City area in 1961 where they raised their three children. Pola loved to read, participating in three book clubs simultaneously. She also enjoyed traveling and attending the theater, movies and the symphony. She was a member of Congregation Beth Torah.

She is predeceased by her husband Gil, and brother Harry Gorsky.

She is survived by her children, Susan Waxman (Joel), Beth Jordan (Jerry) and Douglas Greenwald and grandchildren, Zac Waxman (Barbara), Elliott Waxman (Kelsey Coady), Molly Waxman, Leah Jordan (Benji Stanley) and Clare Jordan. She also is survived by two great-grandsons, Reuben and Miles Waxman.

Up until her death, Pola kept herself well informed, listening to KCU and watching PBS NewsHour. She so wanted to live to see the current occupant of the White House defeated; it was not to be. But she knows her loving family and wonderful friends will work to make that happen.

Private graveside service. Suggested donations: Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care (kchospice.org/), Joe Biden for President ( www.joebiden.com/ ).
