After five years as Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy’s (HBHA) head of school, Adam Tilove announced that he will step down from his role at the end of the spring 2024 semester.

In a message to the HBHA community, Tilove said that he is “grateful to be a part of this community and have the deepest respect for the faculty and staff of HBHA. They are everything this community deserves — kind, tireless, passionate, loving and dedicated. I will remain a proud HBHA parent, donor and community supporter.”

During his time at HBHA, Tilove and the school implemented project-based learning and individualized learning plans, increased fundraising and adapted curriculum. Tilove also was responsible for leading the school during the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Adam’s responses to [the challenges of the pandemic] were swift and well-thought-out, transitioning seamlessly to a safe remote learning plan and later adopting a hybrid learning system,” the HBHA executive board said in a message to community members.

Tilove also heads the school in the wake of the Oct. 7 attacks by Hamas on Israel and the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.

“His leadership during tumultuous times for Israel and the Jewish people showcased his commitment to the safety and well-being of our students, teachers and community,” the HBHA board said in its message. “In times of uncertainty, Adam rallied administrators and leaders from schools across the city, fostering unity and support. His efforts in arranging visits from government representatives demonstrated his dedication to empowering our community and ensuring our voices were heard.”

The HBHA board, administration and community leaders are working together on a “seamless” transition plan and the search process for Tilove’s successor. The HBHA board said it will share more details in the near future.

Tilove said that he is grateful to be able to refocus his attention on caring for his family.
