Following an unsuccessful search for a new rabbi at The New Reform Temple (NRT), Rabbi Alan Londy has offered to delay his retirement and continue to serve the congregation for an additional year.

The NRT Board of Directors unanimously approved the offer to extend Rabbi Londy’s contract through 2025.

“There is a shortage of trained Reform rabbis in the United States,” said Todd Lieberman, NRT Rabbi Search Committee chair. “Many congregations are facing the same difficult situation. We are extremely fortunate that Rabbi Londy is willing to remain as our spiritual leader for an additional year while we redouble our search efforts to find our next rabbi.”

Rabbi Londy shared his willingness to continue at NRT in a letter to the congregation.

“Although this was not my expected plan, I am excited about the coming year,” Rabbi Londy wrote. “The Temple is thriving. We have accomplished a great deal over the past 13 years. Some lucky and thoughtful rabbi will realize that The New Reform Temple will be a wonderful place to plant their rabbinic future.”

“We are incredibly blessed to have Rabbi Londy as our spiritual leader,” Joyce Hess, NRT board president, told the congregation. “His love for the NRT community is evident by his decision to remain for one more year.”

The NRT Rabbinic Search Committee has reconvened to continue the search process to find a new rabbi who would begin in July of 2025.
