Kehilath Israel Synagogue (K.I.) recently held a "Kitchen Shower" which raised more than $4,300 from 46 donors in new kitchen items and donations.

K.I. has two kitchens, allowing it to make and serve meat and dairy foods separately to maintain kashrut. Both kitchens were in need of new cookware, serving pieces and utensils. A “Kitchen Shower” was organized to raise money and donations for kitchenware updates.

Donors provided both money and requested kitchenware. Donated items were on display at a celebration with refreshments on Sunday, March 10, at the synagogue.

The new items will be in use in time for Purim. Also, with some of the extra funds donated, the committee was able to purchase an industrial vacuum cleaner for the synagogue.

The shower’s committee included co-chairs Brenda Fishman and Ellen Portnoy, as well as Maureen Minoofar, Pete Cabell, Jay Portnoy and Jasmine Kaplan. They worked together to organize and inventory the kitchens, create lists of needed items and plan the shower celebration.

Those who still wish to donate to the K.I. “Kitchen Shower” can send a donation to K.I. indicating it is for the shower. More information is available at kisyn.org/donations
