Three-time United States Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky will be reciting poetry live in Kansas City.

Pinsky, who is Jewish, will read his poetry during two events at the 1900 Building (1900 Shawnee Mission Pkwy., Mission Woods, KS 66205).

The events will take place on Friday, Feb. 9 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 10 at 1 p.m. The Friday poetry reading will include live music from Irish fiddle player Martin Hayes and guitarist Kyle Sanna, and the Saturday event will focus on Pinsky’s anthology, “A Book of Poetry for Hard Times.” Some of Pinsky’s works and compilations will be available at the event for purchase and signing.

“I will muse… with examples from the anthology, from my work as a poet and my autobiography ‘Jersey Breaks:’ the tears and laughter of an ordinary, fortunate life in the historical context of my immigrant Jewish family, my home town, our country,” Pinsky wrote about the Saturday event.

Pinsky was the first U.S. poet laureate to be appointed for a third term by the Library of Congress. In addition to his poetry, Pinsky is known for his translation of Dante’s “Inferno,” writing for stage and opera, prose and poetry performances with jazz musicians. He served as a regular contributor to television’s PBS NewsHour and magazines such as The New Yorker and The Atlantic Monthly.

Tickets for both events are available to purchase at 1900bldg.com/all-events.
