The Jewish community is invited to come together to prepare for the High Holy Days at the annual community Selichot program and service on Saturday, Sept. 9.

The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah, will host the service. There will be opportunities for multi-access participation. More information about the program is available at kcrabbi.org. Registration must be done at bit.ly/selichot2023.

The evening will begin with a dessert reception at 8 p.m., followed by Havdalah at 8:50 p.m. At 9 p.m., Rabbi Josh Feigelson, president and CEO of the Institute for Jewish Spirituality, will lead a discussion on “The Breath of Life: A Jewish Mindfulness Practice of Teshuva.”

The Selichot service will begin at 10:10 p.m. and is designed to help worshipers begin to spiritually prepare for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. The service will be led by area clergy and a musical leadership team of soloists from congregations across the community.

“I love attending the Selichot service each year with my friends and family from throughout the community,” commented a member of a local congregation. “The inspirational melodies, prayers and thoughtful reflections offered by the clergy during this contemplative service stir my mind and heart and help me to prepare and welcome in a New Year of hope and a feeling of renewal. A particularly moving moment in the service is the changing of the mantles of the Torah scrolls to symbolic white mantles to reflect the High Holy Day season. As the service concludes with the sounding of the shofar, I am overcome with a sense of awe.”
