Last week, Village Shalom accepted the Blue Valley School District’s 2022-2023 Friends of Education Award for its work with the certified nurse assistant program at Blue Valley Center for Advanced Professional Studies (CAPS).

Village Shalom was one of four local organizations and individuals recognized for their outstanding contributions to public education, and was the only retirement community selected.

“I think it’s very important for our healthcare students to have early experiences that are positive,” said Jennifer Bauer, a business development specialist at Blue Valley CAPS. “Our students are young, and they need a lot of support and mentoring. The staff, from top to bottom at Village Shalom, has provided that for our students. We couldn’t ask for a better business partner. The CAPS program’s success is based on our relationships with business partners. Village Shalom’s is one we hold up as a model for others in our community.”

Village Shalom has been partnering with the Blue Valley CAPS program since its inception, mentoring and supporting students interested in healthcare careers.

“We are proud to do our part in mentoring and educating the next generation of nurses.  The nationwide nursing shortage is a big factor for all of us in healthcare”, said Matt Lewis, Village Shalom president and CEO. “Our goal as a community partner of Blue Valley is to provide hands-on career experience for students who may someday care for our residents.”

Other recipients of the award were Jinkies Coffee and Hangout, John Constant of EPIC Landscape Productions, and The Father’s Club.
