The 23rd annual community Tu B’Shevat Seder celebrating the arrival of spring in Israel will be held in person this year.

The Seder will be on Sunday, Feb. 5, at 3 p.m. at Village Shalom, 5500 W 123rd St, Overland Park, KS 66209.

This year’s event will feature musical guest Shireinu and will include the annual presentation of the Mitzvah Garden KC (MGKC) “Golden Trowel” awards.

“It will be so great to bring the ‘band’ back together, led in song by members of Shireinu, with food prepared by volunteers of all ages, celebrating the blessings of trees and their fruits, and honoring all who help grow the good in our community at Mitzvah Garden KC,” said Ken Sonnenschein, M.D., MGKC founder and chair.

The event will be hosted by MGKC; The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah; The Michael Klein Collection; and Jewish Experiences, a collaboration of Jewish Federation and The J.

“Village Shalom is excited to once again resume our tradition of hosting the Tu B’Shevat Seder,” said Lorena Williams, director of resident life at Village Shalom. “Throughout the pandemic, our organization went through great lengths to protect our residents. Having recently reopened our campus to families and visitors, this celebration will be exceptional.”

“Celebrating Tu B’Shevat by Zoom the past two years was okay, though not nearly as wonderful as singing, dancing, and celebrating together in the social hall at Village Shalom,” Sonnenschein said. “Tu B’Shevat is intended to celebrate the spiritual power of our world through the enjoyment of the physical blessings we receive. This combination can only be fully realized by being together for this special holiday.”

Those interested in attending are encouraged to register by Tuesday, Jan. 31, at TheJKC.org/TuBShevat
