Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy announces its new Board of Directors, led by Chair David Sosland.

For the first time, this board leadership role will pass from one HBHA graduate to another.

Sosland, whose four children currently attend the school, takes the baton from Immediate Past Chair Jeff Goldenberg, another HBHA graduate, whose three daughters are recent graduates of the school.

In addition to Sosland, the Executive Board includes Michael Levine, Vice President; Lori Noorollah, Secretary; and Michael Liss, Treasurer. HBHA’s 2022-23 Board of Directors also includes Carole Bergh, Jerry Enslein, Erika Feingold, Chris Hobbs, Danny Lipsky, Jodi Perelmuter, Brenda Rosenthal, David Slusky, David Soffer, Jason Sokol, Daniel Wajcman, and Jean Zeldin.

“We are thrilled to have David in this leadership role,” said Adam Tilove, HBHA Head of School. “As the son of founders Blanche and Neil Sosland, as a graduate of the school, and as a parent and involved board member, you could say HBHA is in David’s blood. He brings so much knowledge and dedication to the position, and it is a great honor to work with him.”

“I am honored to serve as HBHA’s incoming Board President,” Sosland said. “We are heading into an exciting time at HBHA, with renewed opportunity for continued growth through our strategic plan and a focus on raising the bar for our school.”

“HBHA weathered the pandemic and has grown stronger throughout these difficult times,” Goldenberg said. “I am proud to have led a school that offers such a diverse, yet united Jewish community. We are poised to continue to thrive and grow as a school, and we are so fortunate to have David and the incoming Board of Directors leading that charge.”

Sosland and his wife, Dr. Rachel Pase Sosland (also an HBHA alumna), are the parents of four HBHA students: Ethan, 12th grade; Gabrielle, 9th grade; Jake, 7th grade; and Juliet, 4th grade.

“There was never any question for us as to where we would send our children to school,” Soslan said, “but the incredible HBHA faculty continues to exceed our expectations. We are grateful for what our children gain from an ethics-based education that promotes critical thinking and celebrates the richness and diversity of all Jewish thought and practice.”

Sosland has served on the HBHA board for the past 10 years, including his most recent position as Vice President. He has also served on the boards of Jewish Federation of Greater Kansas City, JCRB|AJC, Congregation Beth Shalom, UMKC’s Architecture Urban Planning and Design, Midwest Center for Holocaust Education and Jewish Community Foundation. He was an early developer of Loft Apartments in downtown Kansas City, Missouri, developing and managing Anne’s Lofts.

Sosland has been chair of the Mt. Carmel Cemetery Committee since 2007, during which he spearheaded the growth of the endowment and renovations to the Yukon Chapel and cemetery grounds.

A native of Kansas City, Sosland is a professional photographer who notably used his skills to help the Midwest Center for Holocaust Education by photographing survivors in the exhibitPortrait 2000.” In 2001, the portraits were published in the book “From the Heart: Life Before and After the Holocaust — A Mosaic of Memories,” by Kansas City Star Books.
