In a year as unpredictable as this one, generosity brings people together. Generosity gives everyone the power to make a positive change in the lives of others.

That’s why Jewish Federation of Greater Kansas City is launching its first Giving Week, Nov. 15-20, a week dedicated to giving and promoting the many ways our Jewish community benefits from the collective support of givers like you to Jewish Federation’s Annual Campaign.

Focusing on Federation’s five areas of service which benefit from the Annual Campaign — Safety Net Services, Senior Adult Services, Youth & Family Services, Jewish Identity & Education and Israel & Overseas — Giving Week will also highlight members of the community who support Federation.

“Although we encourage giving throughout the year and are supporters of the international #GivingTuesday movement, we wanted to provide a week that will power even greater generosity to our Jewish community,” said Mimsy Tallent, director of Marketing and Events.

Money raised by the 2019 Annual Campaign helped support those in crisis, assisted our local community in navigating uncertain circumstances this year and offered meaningful opportunities to engage in Jewish life, even for those who cannot leave their homes.

This year, new and increased gifts will go even further to help address the most critical human needs. Thanks to a national match that brings funds from outside our community to greater Kansas City, and a local match from a generous benefactor, all new and increased gifts over prior-year contributions made to Federation’s Annual Campaign will be matched by 150% during Giving Week.

That means an annual gift increase of $36, for example, becomes $90 with the match and can provide a family of four with a week’s worth of groceries from the food pantry at JFS. A new or increased annual gift of $180 becomes $450 and could help a recently unemployed Jewish adult keep the electricity on for three months through the Chesed Fund, plus receive career counseling through the Career Skills & Connections program at JVS.
