Rabbi Aaron D. Panken, Ph.D., president of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (HUC-JIR), will award Steve Berman with the Doctor of Jewish Nonprofit Management at graduation ceremonies in Los Angeles on May 16 at Temple Emanuel of Beverly Hills. Berman, executive director of Congregation Ohev Sholom, will be honored for 35 years of distinguished professional service as an alumnus of HUC-JIR.
Dillon Hollander, 18, will be awarded the rank of Eagle Scout at a Court of Honor to be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 16, at Atonement Lutheran Church in Overland Park. His Eagle project included building six raised planter boxes that allow wheelchair bound senior residents of the John Knox Village Care Center in Lee’s Summit to plant and care for their flower and vegetable gardens.
