Dorothy Lucille Flekier, 82, of Leawood, Kansas, passed away June 5, 2016. Funeral services were set to be held Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at Louis Memorial Chapel; with interment following at Mount Carmel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Midwest Center for Holocaust Education, Midwest Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Dorothy was born Jan. 4, 1934, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Jacob and Ida Friedman. She was a lifelong area resident and attended Kansas City schools and graduated from Paseo High School. Dorothy met her future husband, David, at an event at the Jewish Community Center. A year later they were married and lived in south Kansas City. Dorothy worked seasonally for the GSA after their two children were in school, later retiring at age 60. She and David loved to take cruises together and spent their winters in Florida. They were both former members of Congregation Beth Shalom.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, David Flekier. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl Flekier–Boxmeyer (John); son, Jay Flekier; and grandchildren, Jacob Boxmeyer and Sarah Boxmeyer.
