Mary Eaglstun

Mary Eaglstun, 94, formerly of Leawood, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Sept. 4, 2015, in Mesa, Arizona. She and her identical twin sister (and lifelong best friend) Sary Freedman were born on July 4, 1921, in Kansas City, Missouri, to the late William and Ida Klugman. Mary and Sary were the youngest children in the family, siblings to Joe, Sam, Louis, John, Jeanne, Jack, Al, Manuel and Nancy. Mary married Manuel Eaglstun in 1941, they were married 41 years and they raised their three children, Sondra, Ellen and Jay, in Leawood, Kansas.

She was a member of Kehilath Israel Synagogue, the Kehilath Israel Sisterhood, and Sweet Adelines, all of which gave her great pride and joy. {mprestriction ids="1,3"}After Manuel’s death in 1982, Mary continued living in the family home for a number of years. Always generous and giving, she found many ways to help out her family. In 2005 her declining health necessitated that she move to Arizona, close to her son and daughter-in-law. The family is extremely grateful for the wonderful and loving care that she received during her last few years in the memory care wing at Grand Court Mesa.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and all of her siblings. She is survived by her children Sondra Jay of Overland Park, Kansas, Ellen Licklider of Santa Clarita, California, and son Jay Eaglstun (Debra Pearson) of Tempe, Arizona; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held at Mount Carmel Cemetery on Sept. 7, 2015.
