Lynnette Martasin

Lynnette Martasin, 81, of Sun City Center, Florida, passed away Aug. 13, 2015. Graveside services were held Monday, Aug. 17, 2015, at Mountt. Carmel Cemetery. Kindly omit flowers; the family suggests that contributions be made to The Alzheimer’s Association or LifePath Hospice.

She was born Jan. 17, 1934, to the late Abe and Ida Gastman, in Kansas City, Missouri. {mprestriction ids="1,3"}She graduated from Paseo High School in 1952 and earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in elementary education from North Texas State University after moving to Dallas in the early 1970s. She married Lawrence Martasin in 1954 and lived in Kansas City and Dallas before retiring to Sun City Center, Florida.

Lynnette was an elementary English teacher in Dallas for 30 years until retiring in 2003 and was passionate about her work and being able to make a difference in the lives of her students.

She was an active member of B’nai B’rith Women and held many offices in sisterhood at the synagogues she belonged to over the years.

She was an avid reader and liked to travel as she took several cruises with her husband and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Abe and Ida Gastman; and her sister Rhoda Liken.

Lynnette was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Lawrence Martasin of Sun City Center, Florida; her sons Elliot Martasin of Lawrence, Kansas; Jeffrey Martasin and daughter-in-law Debra of Overland Park, Kansas; beloved granddaughter Laura Martasin; and brother Ted Gastman and sister-in-law Sara of Gulfport, Florida.
