Caplan, Betty Rose

Betty Rose Caplan, 86, our Mom, Nana, sister, sister-in-law and aunt, passed away Monday, Sept. 22, 2014, at Village Shalom of complications from Early Onset Dementia.

{mprestriction ids="1"}Funeral services were to be held Wednesday, Sept. 24, at The Louis Memorial Chapel, with burial at Mount Carmel Cemetery. If you wish to remember our Mom and Nana, please give contributions in her memory to the Memory Care Unit at Village Shalom.

Betty was born July 26, 1928, in Kansas City, Mo., to Louis and Rebecca Rubin and was the youngest of four children. She left the work world when she married her husband, Norman, and became a stay-at-home Mom catering to the needs of her family, participating in her children’s school activities and serving as an active member of Congregation Ohev Sholom and Kehilath Israel  Synagogue.

She loved to garden, cook, bake, entertain and keep an immaculate house. She adored children and the absolute joy of her life was her three granddaughters. Even as her memory faded, she always recognized Hannah and Sarah and smiled with great happiness.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Norman; her son, Bradley; her sister, Alice Schik; her brother, Oscar Rubin; her granddaughter, Dana McCollam Allison; and nephew, Marvin Zeff.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Cathy; daughter, Leslie; sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Jerry Nerman; granddaughters, Hannah and Sarah; nieces and nephews, Marsha and Gene Naron and Lewis and Sue Nerman; great-nieces and nephews and the wonderful caregivers at Village Shalom who treated her with love and dignity through the years as she was taken from our grasp.
