Kaplan, Seymour

Seymour Kaplan, 88, of Overland Park passed away on Monday, Aug. 4, 2014, after a long battle with cancer.

Services were to be held at Congregation Beth Torah on Wednesday, Aug. 6, with interment to follow in the Congregation Beth Torah Section of Mount Moriah Cemetery South. Memorials may be sent to Congregation Beth Torah’s Music Fund.

Seymour was born on July 28, 1926, in Chicago where he lived for many years before settling in Kansas City.

Seymour was a Navy war veteran of the Pacific Theater and University of Chicago alumni. In his 45-year career he worked both in industry as a senior vice president at Blue Cross Blue Shield in Chicago, Kansas City and St. Louis; and in academia as an adjunct professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology, Northwestern and Rockhurst University. He served on the board of directors at BCBS, Physicians Health Programs, Jewish Family Services and the Shepard Center.

Seymour loved a good book, a good documentary, his family and good friends. He was an avid bridge player, golfer and member of ROMEOs. He was a member of The Jewish Community Center and Congregation Beth Torah.

Seymour is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carole; his three children, Michael (wife MaryAnne), Julie, and Jeffrey (wife Bernadette); and six grandchildren, Tyler, Alex (wife Katherine), Abigail, Ethan, Mary Grace and Jonah.
