While the Rabbinical Association of Greater Kansas City is not hosting a community seder this year, Chabad continues to offer seders. This year a first and second night seder meal will take place at The Shul — Chabad of Leawood, 5051 W. 134th St.
There will be no seders at Chabad House of Overland Park.
Chabad has been offering first and second Passover seders for at least 40 years, said Rabbi Mendy Wineberg, Chabad of Leawood. He said he remembers them from his childhood.
Typically around 50 to 100 people attend, and this year they’re expecting 75 to 100. Blumah Wineberg said there has been more interest this year, partly because the other seder is not happening.
The first seder at the Leawood Chabad will take place at 8:30 p.m. Friday, April 22; the second seder is at 9 p.m. Saturday, April 23. The donation price for adults is $36 and for children 3 to 12, $20. However, the cost will be waived for anyone who cannot afford it.
If you want to be a seder sponsor, the cost is $180. A matzah sponsor is $360.
“Our goal is to offer people the opportunity to have a seder; that’s our entire focus,” Rabbi Wineberg said. “On Passover we say ‘All who are hungry, come and eat.’ We have to make sure that our own brethren here have that opportunity to come and be a part of it because this is our story. We want to make sure everyone has that chance.”
Chabad offers community seders for those who don’t have the option of cooking their own meal or ordering food in, thus making it impossible to hold Passover in their own homes.
“Anyone who wants a community seder is welcome,” said Rabbi Wineberg.
According to the website, no one will be turned away due to lack of funds.

Chabad on the Plazz also hosting seder
On Friday, April 22, Chabad on the Plaza will host a Passover seder. Co-director Chana Itkins said, “It will be a warm, uplifting and welcoming experience and we’re offering a special discount for young professionals.”
