Beverly Lichterman, 91, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on Friday, Jan. 18. Private funeral arrangements were made by her family.

Beverly was born Friday, Jan. 13, 1928 — Friday the 13th, henceforth her lucky day — in Kansas City, Missouri, to William and Rose Meadow. She attended Central High School. About a year after graduating, her friend Shirley Lichterman introduced Bev to Shirley’s cute brother, Charles, whom Bev instantly dubbed “Chuck.” They fell in love and married in 1947. The couple raised four children, enjoyed the love of extended family and the camaraderie of close friends, and played cards whenever the opportunity arose.

Bev was a wiz at business, helping Chuck with various entrepreneurial enterprises. After he died in 1972, Bev worked with brother-in-law Si Zingher and his sales company. When daughter Karin met her future husband Mark Edelman, Bev signed on to manage Mark’s brand-new organization, Theater League. She was a business manager of the League for 27 years, retiring in 2004.

She was a champion player in her family’s weekly “Oh Hell” card games. A devoted card player, Bev also enjoyed Pan and Mahjong. She loved to travel domestically and internationally. Shortly before her 90th birthday, she spent a week in Paris with her grandchildren.

Bev was a “younger-than-her-years” nonagenarian who lived independently in her own house and who maintained an active social calendar. She was impressively computer-savvy, and was lauded for the personal, custom-made photo cards she created for birthdays and other occasions.

Besides her husband, Bev was preceded in death by her parents; siblings and in-laws Sam and Ruth Gass, Belle and Ralph Shapiro, Margaret Little, Fran and Si Zingher, Shirley and Joe Agron; and longtime companion, Bill Partin.

She is survived by her children and their spouses Danny Lichterman and Sonya Burton, Karin Lichterman and Mark Edelman, Robin Suellentrop, and Mitch and Mimi Lichterman; grandchildren, Soraya Burton, Eli Burton, Major Burton, CJ Edelman, Risa Edelman, Danna Suellentrop, Evan Suellentrop, Kaylyn Vera, Quinn Lichterman and Jack Lichterman; and six great-grandchildren.

She was welcoming and loving to all the partners who joined the family, and to numerous nieces and nephews so dear to her heart, including Bill Glass, Randy Glass, Gary Zingher, Rick Zingher, Cindy Zingher, Bev Agron and Steve Agron.

A memorial service will be held at noon on Sunday, Feb. 3, in the Social Hall of the Jewish Community Campus, 5801 W. 115th Street, with the family receiving visitors immediately following at the home of Karin and Mark.
