Jewish Family Services (JFS) is seeking donations and volunteers for its annual Hanukkah Project, which will provide gifts and gift cards to more than 300 people and families in the Kansas City Jewish community this holiday season.
The project helps JFS clients, ranging from young children to older adults, celebrate Hanukkah by providing wrapped presents and gift cards. Community members can contribute by purchasing requested items, donating gift cards or helping wrap presents ahead of the holiday.
Among the items still needed this year are bath towels, Kansas City Chiefs sweatshirts, yarn for crafting as well as diapers. Other items are included on the JFS Hanukkah Amazon wish list, which allows donors to purchase gifts requested by clients and have them shipped directly to JFS.
Community members who prefer to shop in person can drop off unwrapped gifts Nov. 2-6 at the JFS office at the Jewish Community Center, 5801 W. 115th St., in Overland Park.
JFS is also requesting $25 gift cards to Target, Walmart or Amazon. The cards allow recipients to select their own gifts or purchase groceries for the holiday. Gift cards can be dropped off at either JFS office, or donors can make contributions online.
Volunteers of all ages are invited to help prepare the gifts at the annual Hanukkah Wrapping Party on Thursday, Nov. 19, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the JCC Social Hall. Those interested in participating can register online.
