After two years of careful consideration, the National Council of Jewish Women Greater Kansas City Section (NCJW) board of directors voted to become an independent local nonprofit and rename itself Jewish Women Together (JWT).
For more than 130 years, NCJW has brought members together to improve the lives of women, children and families throughout our community. Through volunteer service, advocacy, education, and philanthropy, we have created meaningful impact and valuable connections.
JWT’s decision to become independent follows structural changes at the National Council of Jewish Women, Inc. including an advocacy-only focus and restrictions on local control over programming, operations and staffing. Independence ensures the organization can safeguard the work its members value most, while expanding its impact and engagement in Kansas City.
JWT’s tagline is “Where Values Inspire Action.” Its goals are to honor the legacy of NCJW and the women who built it; live the Jewish value of tikkun olam — repairing the world through action; create meaningful connections and lifelong friendships; support and strengthen its community; and inspire the next generation of Jewish women leaders.
In addition to its name change, JWT will have updated branding, including a new website, logo and office email address. Memberships will transition seamlessly; programs, events and community initiatives will continue; existing donations will continue to support its mission and operations as intended; donations will remain tax-deductible; life memberships will continue to be honored; and annual membership dues will remain unchanged.
Leaders emphasize that the spirit, relationships and drive that have defined the local section will remain as strong as ever for its 550 members. Its commitment to Jewish values, community service, education and connection will remain unchanged.
