Jewish Federation of Greater Kansas City has launched the Israel in Crisis: Recover and Rebuild Fund in the wake of the Iranian missile attacks on Israel that caused dozens of deaths, thousands of injuries and significant destruction of property.
The Israel in Crisis: Recover and Rebuild Fund, facilitated through Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA), provides immediate support for people in areas impacted by missiles, including emergency financial assistance for victims, support for hospitals and shelters damaged by strikes, and support for municipalities and local authorities dealing with nearly 10,000 Israelis displaced from their homes.
“Our community was incredibly generous in supporting Israel after Oct. 7,” says Derek Gale, vice president and chief operating officer at Jewish Federation. “As a Federation system, we raised and allocated more than $750 million; JFNA’s Israel Emergency Fund allocation committee has put $10 million toward these additional needs already. We hope a ceasefire will limit acute needs from growing too much further, but there are repercussions that will reverberate and needs that will extend well into the future related to trauma.”
Kansas City donations to Federation’s Israel in Crisis fund are allocated through JFNA to its partners on the ground in Israel, including the Israel Trauma Coalition, the Jewish Agency for Israel and JDC. The fund also supports organizations serving vulnerable populations such as those with disabilities (who may require special services to remain safe and protected) or pregnant women (via remote consultations). Trauma relief and mental health services will be supported in both the immediate and long term.
Jewish Federation notes that 100% of each contribution to the Israel in Crisis fund goes directly to emergency response. Investments may be made via the Federation website, jewishkansascity.org, or via check or donor advised fund grant to Federation.
