Jewish Experiences, a collaboration of Jewish Federation and The J, and Heritage are hosting Cooking with Bubbe, a new series of hands-on, intergenerational cooking experiences.

The series is designed to explore Jewish culture, traditions and values through the universal language of food. In each class, grandparents and grand-friends along with their elementary-aged grandchildren will cook, learn and create meaningful memories together while celebrating the rich heritage that connects generations.

The first class is themed around Rosh Hashanah. Participants will bake homemade challah and learn the customs, symbolism and traditions of the Jewish New Year. Led by Heritage Executive Chef Leah Kusaeva and Director of Jewish Experiences Molly Hess, this hands-on program will combine cooking and storytelling to connect families with Jewish traditions.

“For me, this is more than just a cooking class,” Kusaeva said. “It is an opportunity to pass love, family stories and traditions from one generation to the next. I especially love the idea that children will not only learn new recipes but also develop a deeper connection to their family and their culture."

Upcoming programs include:

Rosh Hashanah Challah, Tuesday, Sept. 1, 5-7 p.m

Participants will bake homemade challah and discover the customs, symbolism and traditions of the Jewish New Year.

Hanukkah Latkes, Tuesday, Dec. 1, 5-7 p.m.

Purim Hamantaschen, Tuesday, March 9, 5-7 p.m.
