A new hybrid iris has been named “Doc Blum’s Bloom” after Dr. Michael Blum, a former Overland Park pediatrician and community mohel.

The honor was given by the Iris Society of Dallas, Texas, where Dr. Blum recently completed a term as president.

Dr. Blum served as a pediatrician in the Kansas City area for 35 years, moving with his wife, Jenifer, in 1969. For nearly ten years, he served as a community mohel, and he served on the board and as president of Congregation Beth Torah.

He is the founder of Pediatric Partners, a practice carried on by other pediatricians since his retirement in 2012. He moved to Dallas, Texas, to be closer to family after retiring.

Doc Blum’s Bloom is described by the American Iris Society as having a sweet fragrance and displaying a wide variety of purples.
