SevenDays invites area high schoolers to apply to its Kindness Youth Leadership (KYLT) team for the 2026-2027 school year.

Now in its second decade, SevenDays is a Kansas City-based nonprofit organization that overcomes hate by promoting kindness and understanding through education and dialogue.

Reflecting the diversity of the SevenDays effort, this youth group is made up of high school students (incoming ninth through 12th grades) from a variety of schools across the Kansas City metro, faiths, cultures and ethnicities.

Students on the SevenDays Kindness Youth Leadership Team meet monthly to participate in leadership training and perform community service acts. KYLT members are kindness “influencers” who also help plan SevenDays annual Kindness Breakfast, the annual Thrive with Kindness Festival and other activities. Team members play an active role representing their schools and encouraging youth participation in SevenDays activities throughout the school year.

Members are selected through this application process; the application is now available through the SevenDays website (SevenDays.org). The application deadline is June 5.

“We are so excited to receive applications from students from across our metro area who truly care about kindness and understanding,” said Kelly Murphy, executive director of SevenDays. “We look for teens who want to learn leadership skills, make new friends and gain knowledge, then put it all into action by being kindness ‘influencers.’”

Over the years, KYLT members have also helped develop some of the extensive kindness resources available from SevenDays, including “Carry on Kindness” cards. All resources are available for educators, faith groups, businesses, families and organizations. These online resources make it easy and convenient to participate at each person's desired level of engagement. All ages are encouraged to participate; materials can be ordered at SevenDays.org.

“Being part of SevenDays has been life-changing for me,” said high school junior Abhi Kambhampati, another KYLT member. “Being able to bring SevenDays activities to my school and see the ‘ripple’ is amazing because the messages students take out of the activities impact throughout the year.”
