Strangers No More, an interfaith women’s group founded after the shootings at the Jewish Community Campus and Village Shalom in 2014, has announced plans for its winter 2026 series.
The winter 2026 series began on Jan. 5 with an evening Zoom meeting on the topic “Our Faith Through the Decades of Life.”
On Thursday, Jan. 15, the group will meet in person at Westbrooke Church (9777 Antioch Rd., Overland Park, KS 66212) from 10:30 a.m. to noon for a Tu B’Shevat Seder. It will be led by Marcia Rittmaster with music by Lezlie Zucker, director of music and worship leader at Congregation Beth Torah.
The group closed its fall series last month with a community service program learning about and supporting EarlystART-St. Mark Child & Family Development Center, a facility that provides early childhood education with an arts-infused curriculum for children from infancy to pre-K. EarlystART Director of Programs Merrill Hunt presented an overview of the organization and the work the agency is doing in the urban core. Members brought art supplies and other materials to be used in the programs offered to students at the school.
Future programs include a look at the history of civil rights in Kansas City and a discussion of Vatican II, where major decisions were made by the Catholic Church, including rejecting the notion of collective Jewish guilt for Jesus’ death and condemning antisemitism as contrary to Christian faith.
There is no charge to join. The group is open to all women of any religion or no religion. Those wishing to join can go to the Facebook page “Strangers No More; Women Building Bridges to Understanding” and request to become a member.
