Jewish Federation’s Women’s Philanthropy will host Knead a Night Out, a challah braiding and candle painting event, to kick off 2026.

Knead a Night Out will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 5, at the Jewish Community Campus (5801 W. 115th St., Overland Park, KS 66211) in the social hall. It is open to women in the community ages 18 and up.

Knead a Night Out is an opportunity for Jewish women to connect with one another and get a preview of what Federation’s Women’s Philanthropy has planned for the upcoming year.

“Everyone is there to have a good time, to chit-chat, to relax, to get to know each other and to learn a little bit more about getting involved in Jewish Federation and how we help the community at large,” said Barbara Bloch, Federation major gifts officer and head of Women’s Philanthropy.

The evening will begin with beverages, challah and sweet and savory dipping boards for attendees. This will be followed by challah braiding and painting Shabbat candles. Attendees will bring home both their challah and a set of Shabbat candles for use in their homes.

This year, each attendee will also make a set of Shabbat candles for Jewish Family Services’ Shabbat boxes, which are assembled to make Shabbat available to those in the community who may not otherwise be able to celebrate.

“Not only is Knead a Night Out an opportunity to gather and enjoy each other’s company, but we are also giving back to the community. The philanthropic component is special,” Bloch said.

Tickets for Knead A Night Out are available for purchase until Monday, Feb. 2, at jewishkansascity.org/knead
