Although summer is just beginning, the Kansas City Section of the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) is already looking ahead to the back-to-school season.

In keeping with its mission to improve the quality of life for women, children and families, NCJW will again host its Back to School Store, an initiative that provides support to local families in need.

Each year, through the Back to School Store, qualified children receive brand-new backpacks filled with school supplies, along with essential clothing and coats for the fall and winter months. In 2025, NCJW expects to serve 400 children from 12 community partner agencies.

The success of this effort relies on the help of approximately 120 volunteers (ages 16 and up). NCJW invites members of the community to get involved by assisting with tasks such as transporting, unpacking and sorting supplies, as well as fulfilling the orders received from agencies.

Volunteer opportunities begin July 15 and continue through July 29. NCJW organizers say that whether one can give a few hours in one shift or are able to commit to more, their time and energy will make a meaningful difference.
