Congregation Beth Torah member Zach Somberg is among several members of Blue Valley Northwest’s Husky Headlines staff to win a 2012 Emmy Award from Mid-America Chapter of The National Television Academy of Arts and Sciences in the high school division.

Zach, along with Taylor Andrews, earned first place in the human interest category for their story “Listen to Me,” about a young man with a hearing impairment.

The students were honored at the 36th Mid-America Emmy Gala Sept. 22 at the Midland Theatre in Kansas City, Mo.

Zach, a senior, is the son of Kelly and Dan Somberg.

Mirra Klausner and Todd Clauer announce the Bat Mitzvah of their daughter, Haidee K. Clauer, at Shabbat Services, 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at Congregation Beth Shalom.

Haidee is the granddaughter of Carla and Tiberius Klausner of Fairway and Lois and Daniel Clauer of Springfield, Ohio.

Joli and Ruben Fridman of Northbrook, Ill. (formerly of Kansas City, Mo.), announce the Bat Mitzvah of their daughter, Nina Rose Fridman, at 5:15 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at Congregation Hakafa in Glencoe, Ill.

Nina is the granddaughter of Mark and Sandy Robinson of Buffalo Grove, Ill., and Esther Fridman and the late Dr. Jaime Fridman of Boynton Beach, Fla. Great-grandparents are Marvin and Toby Orlovick and the late Esther Orlovick and the late Ann and Charles Robinson.

Jeff and Audrey Kunin announce the Bat Mitzvah of their daughter, Sophie Alexis Kunin, at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah.

Sophie is the granddaughter of Bob and Estey Gottlieb of Toledo, Ohio, and Claire Kunin and the late Howard Kunin of Beverly Hills, Calif.

James and Elizabeth Reicher announce the Bar Mitzvah of their son, William Thomas Reicher, on Saturday, Sept. 29, at Congregation Beth Torah.

William is the grandson of Phil and Nancy Reicher and Fred and Lola Fairchild.

Marvin Gibian will observe and celebrate his 85th birthday at Congregation Beth Shalom on Shabbat Ha’Azinu, Sept. 29, and sponsor the Kiddush following services.

Erin and Aaron Berger of Kansas City, Mo., announce the birth Sept. 10 of their son, Eli Finn. He is named for his great-grandmothers, Esther Rice and Frances Berger. Grandparents are Jody and Neal (Buzz) Malashock of Omaha, Neb., and Margaret and Arthur Berger of Leawood.

Kelley and Jason Wengler of Leawood announce the birth July 24 of their triplets, Zoey Annabelle, Lily Hope and Jack Alexander. Grandparents are Marilyn and Ron Higgins of Leawood, Sam Matier of Merriam and Karen and Don Wengler of St Louis.

Sharon and Scott Jerwick announce the engagement of their daughter, Andrea Jerwick, to Zachary Fargo, son of Ellen and Richard Fargo, Keller, Texas.

The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of Eloyce and Morton Pepper of Englewood, Colo., and Marjorie and the late Maurice Jerwick, Overland Park. She attended the University of Texas at Austin, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology, and from Washburn University earned a degree as a registered diagnostic cardiac sonographer. She was a member of Alpha Epsilon Phi. She currently is employed as a cardiac sonographer at St. Luke’s Hospital.

The future groom is the grandson of the late Albert and Grace Klein and the late Lynn and Elizabeth Fargo. He attended the University of Oklahoma, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in cultural anthropology. He is currently employed as an account manager for Print Time.

A late May wedding is planned.
