Geta (Gertrude) Ashkenasy Klaper of Lafeyette, Colo., formerly of Overland Park, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Feb. 26, 1931, to Mary and Joseph Ashkenasy, Geta earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Brooklyn College.
In 1956 Geta married Bob (Robert) Klaper. She taught second grade for many years in impoverished areas in New York before moving to Overland Park.
Geta and Bob raised two children, Miri and David. She returned to work at DFW (Division of Family Services) in Kansas City, Mo.
She was a voracious reader and loved reading and collecting cookbooks.
Geta is survived by her husband, Bob, of 57 years; her daughter, Miri (Dan) Froelich; son, David Klaper; grandsons, Jacob, Perry and Gage Froelich; and sister, Phyllis Goldberg. She also leaves many relatives in Kansas City and Ramat Gan, Israel.
