Donald M. Frischer of Alpharetta, Ga., passed away Friday evening, Jan. 4, at Emory Hospital, John’s Creek, Ga., at the age of 76.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 18, at The Louis Memorial Chapel, with burial at Rose Hill Cemetery.
Don was born on Jan. 5, 1935, to Leon and Minnie Frischer. He attended Southwest High School in Kansas City.
In 1957, he married Barbara Kapnick, with whom he had three children, Len, Eric and Amy. Don and Barbara also helped raise his younger brother, Minard, as part of their family. He served in the United States Army at Fort Benning, Ga. Following his discharge from the Army, Don went to work for Art Master Yearbooks, which became Interstate Book Manufacturers. It was here that he spent more than 30 dedicated years in the production of books and yearbooks.
While living in Overland Park, Kan., Don was a proud member of Nall Hills Country Club, where he spent many happy years playing tennis and socializing with his dear friends. Don was a true Kansas City sports fan, who once risked life and limb to travel to Oakland to see the Chiefs defeat the Raiders for the right to go to Super Bowl IV. Don remained an avid fan of the Chiefs, Royals and the Kansas Jayhawks. With his support and guidance, all three of his children graduated from KU. After Barbara passed away in 1984, Don took on the role of mother and father to all his children, but none more so than to his daughter Amy, who was 14 at the time.
Don started a new life with Adrienne Neuman Pressman, also from Kansas City, after becoming reacquainted at their 1990 high school reunion. At the reunion, they learned they had gone to elementary and Sunday school together. After a telephone courtship for nearly two years, in 1992 Don moved to Alpharettam, Ga., to be with Adrienne. They were wed on May 1, 1993, at their Alpharetta home. Don spent 18 wonderful years with Adrienne and her children, Mitch Netherton and Melanie White, and their children, who wholeheartedly adopted him into their hearts and lives. In his later years, Don continued to enjoy tennis, fishing, crossword puzzles and travel with Adrienne. Most of all they simply enjoyed one another’s company.
Don is survived by his wife, Adrienne, his children, Len Frischer (Dawn) and Eric Frischer of Kansas City, Amy Oseland (Mike) of Chicago, Mitch Netherton and Melanie White of Atlanta; and his grandchildren, Blake, Evan, Drew, Brooke, Jake, Bailey, Peyton, Sari, Joshua, Nick, Noah, and Sami.
The family suggests that donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
