Schoegler, Esther

Esther Schoegler, 98, died peacefully on March 7, 2012. A lifelong resident of Kansas City, Esther was a generous and loving mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

Esther was born at home on Aug. 21, 1913, at 3600 Virginia to Joseph and Anna Shafton. She attended Faxon Grade School and graduated from Westport High School. Esther and her late husband Arthur were married on June 26, 1938, and remained happily married for 45 years.

Esther was the first woman to work for Macy’s furniture department in the early 1950s and continued her 58-year distinguished career in sales with Macy’s and Dillard’s department stores until 2009.

Esther is survived by her son, Richard Schoegler and daughter-in-law Elizabeth Gutierrez of Santa Fe, N.M.; her granddaughter, Neily Schoegler, and two great-grandchildren, Alex Schoegler and Tyler Keys, of Prairie Village. She is also survived by nieces, Sherry Lieberman, Andrea Duarte-Rambo and Rhoda Lewis Sullivan; nephews, Joel Shafton and Gary Lewis; and special friends, Doris Taube, Mission Hills, Jackie Kamin, Stevie Pessin and Laura Gorman, Overland Park; and many other friends who have shown her much love over the past years.

A graveside memorial service was held on Friday, March 9, at Mount Moriah Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to Shepherd’s Center of Kansas City Central, 5200 Oak St., Kansas City, MO 64112 (816-444-1121).
