Weinstein, Helen J.

Helen J. Weinstein, 84, oracle and advocate for many generations, of Kansas City, Mo., died Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at Kansas City Hospice House after a long, painful heroic struggle.

Graveside services were held Friday, March 9, at Sheffield Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy.

Mrs. Weinstein was born in Kansas City, Mo., on Oct. 22, 1927, the daughter of Jake and Sarah (Kahn) Bratt, and was a lifelong area resident.

She was a member of Beth Shalom Synagogue and its Sisterhood, and was a longtime real estate agent in Kansas City.

Mrs. Weinstein was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 53 years, David Weinstein, in 2001; her brothers, Lewis Bratt, Aleck Bratt and Sam Bratt; and her sister, Sarah Schere.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Brooke Kroeger and Alexander Goren, New York City; sons and daughters-in-law, Rabbi Avi Weinstein and Tamar Solnik of Kansas City and Silver Spring, Md., and Randall Weinstein and Ellen Walterscheid, New York City; sisters-in-law, Edith Bratt, Kansas City, Mo., Anne Bratt, Kansas City, Mo., and Mae Bratt, Overland Park; grandchildren, Andrea Goren and wife Bettina Bose, New York City, Selina and Ari Komeran, Savyon, Israel, Brett Kroeger and husband Joshua Weiner, Riverside, Conn., Noa and Ben Weinstein, Melbourne, Australia, Rose Weinstein and husband Mordechai Sapper, New York City, and Paul Weinstein, Silver Spring; great-grandchildren, Dax, Lilu and Akiva Goren, New York City, Elior and Amaris Komeran, Savyon, and Jacoby and Madeleine Weiner, Riverside. Beloved loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and –nephews, great-great-nieces and -nephews, cousins and extraordinary friends also survive.
