Bertha Gutovitz, 89, of Overland Park, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, at Village Shalom.
Funeral services were to be held Wednesday, Feb. 1, at The Louis Memorial Chapel, with burial at Mount Carmel Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the Midwest Center for Holocaust Education, Village Shalom or Congregation Beth Shalom.
Mrs. Gutovitz was born March 7, 1922, in Radom, Poland, the daughter of Avraham and Basha (Sherman) Cukier. She was a seamstress at a tailor shop for many years before retiring.
Mrs. Gutovitz was a very strong and regal woman who valued the beauty and goodness of everyone around her.
Family was always the most precious thing to “Bubie.” Even after moving to Florida, she and Zayde came back to Kansas City often and spent many weeks at a time with all the grandchildren. They had a very special relationship with her.
Mrs. Gutovitz was a member of Congregation Beth Shalom and for many years, a member of Temple Beth Shalom in Boca Raton, Fla.
She was a Holocaust survivor. Her parents, a brother and two sisters perished in the Holocaust.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Joseph Gutovitz, in 1996, and a brother, Mike Cukier, in 2011.
Mrs. Gutovitz is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Allen and Gail Gutovitz, Mission Hills; daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Dr. Alexander Davis, Overland Park; sister-in-law, Jill Cukier, Wales; grandchildren, Erin and Tim Finnigan, Lori and Javid Noorollah, Jared Davis, Elisa Davis, Scott and Caron Gutovitz, Joshua Gutovitz and Debbie and Brian Pappas; and great-grandchildren, Livia and Uriel Noorollah; Owen and Isaac Gutovitz and Charles Pappas.
