Richard Paul Reicher, 95, of Overland Park, Kansas, died Sunday, May 28, 2023.

Graveside services will be held on June 2 at Rose Hill Cemetery, 6900 Troost Avenue, Kansas City, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to KC Pet Project (kcpetproject.org).

Richard was born on April 19, 1928, to the late Moses and Rose Reicher in Kansas City, Missouri. Richard graduated from Westport High School and received an associate’s degree in business from the University of Kansas City (now UMKC). Richard served in the United States Navy, stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He married the late Sally Cohen in 1960 (d. 2015) and was a lifelong resident of (and expert on) Kansas City.

Richard spent the bulk of his working life in the advertising specialties field, but his real passion lay in working with his hands. He was an active member of The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah Brotherhood, and received the Man of the Year award in 1988 for his tireless work on the Temple retreat site. He loved cars, both driving and working on them. He was always available to help a friend or a stranger — whether it was giving a ride to two women stranded in the flood of 1977, regularly driving a local grocery clerk to his apartment so he did not have to walk home from work late at night, or doing home repairs for an elderly woman who had no one else to help. He always thought outside of the box to find fixes to practical problems, and often was successful.

He loved his family and always had Twizzlers on hand for his granddaughters and neighbor children. He doted on dogs his whole life. His sense of humor and ability to stage elaborate jokes was lifelong.

Richard is survived by daughter, Terri Reicher of Bethesda, Maryland; son and daughter-in-law Richard and Denise Reicher of Kansas City, Missouri; daughter and son-in-law Leslie and Daniel Cardenas of Frederick, Maryland; granddaughter Carli Schwee and her husband Michael Dubbin, and granddaughter Rylee Schwee, all of Frederick; by brother and sister-in-law Philip and Nancy Reicher of Kansas City, Missouri; and loving nieces and nephews of several generations.
