American Public Square at Jewell, JCRB|AJC Kansas City and Jewish Federation of Greater Kansas City will jointly present an evening event, “The Rise of Antisemitism from the Left and the Right,” at 6:30 p.m. on September 2 at Union Station.
Jewish Federation of Greater Kansas City’s Leadership Tomorrow summer internship program recently wrapped up its eighth year. Five Jewish college students spent the summer working with nonprofit organizations across Kansas City, gaining real-world work experience, personal and professional development, and valuable mentorship and networking.
Hadassah Greater Kansas City invites members, prospective members, family and friends to join its virtual tour of the Michael Klein Collection at The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah, on August 30, 7:00-8:30 p.m., via Zoom. Educator/Curator Abby Magariel will focus on items from this collection for Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur and Sukkot.
The Jewish community will gather to prepare for the approaching High Holy Days at the annual community-wide Selichot program and service on August 28, hosted at Congregation Beth Torah. There will be opportunities for multi-access participation, both in person and virtually.
Don’t delay in ordering your Rosh Hashanah holiday meal. Erev Rosh Hashanah begins on Monday evening, September 6. Meals will be prepared by Kim Matsil of Kim’s Kreations, and curbside meal pickup will take place at the Jewish Community Campus Sunday afternoon, September 5.
There’s still time to sign up for the virtual Day of Discovery event, which will take place Sunday, August 22. Late registration will be available after the August 16 deadline as class size permits. To ensure the safety of all participants, this year’s program will be entirely virtual on Zoom.
Jewish Experiences, a collaboration of Jewish Federation and The J, has announced that MeltonKC is moving under its umbrella, to expand the program’s adult Jewish education offerings.
Several COVID-19 vaccines under development in Israel hold out promise for their ability to protect against variants of the virus that are challenging existing vaccines.
According to a survey conducted last August by the Jewish Community Relations Bureau|AJC, Jewish students in Kansas City face antisemitism on a disturbingly regular basis in schools. Seventy-five percent of students reported experiencing or witnessing at least one form of antisemitism at school.
