Dr. Nick Pumphrey will speak to the JULIETs (Jewish Unforgettable Ladies Interested in Eating Together) on Sunday, October 25, to discuss the Archaeology of Ancient Israel at Congregation Beth Torah (6100 W. 1275th St., Overland Park, KS).
Pumphrey addressed the JULIETs in May and has been invited three times to the ROMEOs group. Pumphrey is a professor of Religious Studies at Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas, and curator of the Quayle Bible Collection. He specializes in the archaeology and history of ancient Israel, working within the fields of comparative religions, popular culture and religion.
At the October 25 meeting, Pumphrey will give a brief overview of the history of archaeology of Israel. He will cover some of the main periods and sites that archaeologists have explored, highlighting some of the controversies. He will discuss his work at Tel Akko, a Bronze Age Phoenician site on the Mediterranean Coast on the Bay of Haifa, where he worked from 2010 to 2019.
JULIETs is open to Jewish women (and women of other faiths who have a Jewish spouse). The free program is held at Congregation Beth Torah, but no synagogue membership is required. Attendees should bring their own lunch or snack. Beverages and paper goods will be provided.
