As rising food costs continue to strain household budgets, nearly 500 local families rely on the Jewish Family Services (JFS) Food Pantry each month for groceries, personal care items, and household essentials.

JFS is asking our community to come together and help ensure that every family can celebrate the season with dignity, comfort, and the food they need. JFS is partnering in the food drive with the Rabbinical Association of Greater Kansas City.

During the High Holiday season, from Sept. 10 through Oct. 8, JFS asks the public to fill a grocery bag and help feed a family.

The most needed items in the pantry are canned tomato products, pasta, rice, soup, canned chicken and tuna, shampoo, conditioner and body wash as well as kosher items.

There are three ways to participate in the food drive:

Fill a grocery bag with items for several healthy meals and drop them off in the JFS barrel at your local Jewish congregation, at the Jewish Community Center or JFS Brookside during business hours. Those who are members of congregations should check with the place of worship for drop-off deadlines.

Shop online with your favorite food vendor and ship them to JFS (5801 W. 115th St., Overland Park, KS). Browse the JFS Amazon Pantry Wish list at jfskc.org.

Make a financial donation and let JFS do the shopping. Donations can be made online at jfskc.org/donate or mailed to JFS.

In addition to the High Holiday Food Drive, JFS is providing Rosh Hashanah meals for about 200 client households, ensuring they enjoy a sweet New Year. Households will receive prepared holiday meals, challah, apples and honey, juice and produce. JFS is accepting financial donations to underwrite the cost of meals. Those wishing to donate for these meals can visit jfskc.org/donate or call (913) 327-8250.
