The Lewis & Shirley White Theatre at The J will host “The Prince of Egypt Sing-Along” on April 6 at 6:30 p.m., inviting Kansas City community members to gather for a Passover-themed event centered on music and storytelling.

Framed as the “Kansas City community’s third Seder,” the event offers an immersive screening of the award-winning animated musical “The Prince of Egypt” and encourages audience participation through singing.

“We were inspired to create the ‘Kansas City community’s third Seder’ as a joyful extension of the Passover tradition, a way to gather beyond the home and celebrate this beautiful story together as a broader community,” said Jonah Greene, director of Arts & Culture at The J.

Tickets and pricing information for the “The Prince of Egypt Sing-Along” is available at thewhitetheatre.org

Designed as an immersive, participatory experience, the sing-along invites audiences to actively engage with the film rather than simply watch it. Guests are encouraged to sing along to beloved songs such as “When You Believe,” “Deliver Us” and “Through Heaven’s Eyes” while enjoying themed décor, photo opportunities and a pre-show interactive lobby. Each ticket includes a curated goodie bag with kosher-for-Passover treats, interactive props and other surprises. Costumes are encouraged, with a prize offered to those who come dressed for the occasion.

Organizers say “The Prince of Egypt” is a particularly meaningful film to feature during Passover, as it captures the emotional and spiritual core of the Exodus story through themes of freedom, faith and hope. Its storytelling and music make an ancient narrative accessible across generations, inviting both children and adults to connect with the story in a shared, memorable way.

Greene said the event reflects The J’s broader mission to bring people together through meaningful, inclusive programming that celebrates Jewish tradition while welcoming the wider community.

“Passover is about freedom, identity and coming together as a community,” said Molly Hess, director of Jewish Experiences at The J. “This sing-along offers a modern, welcoming way for people to connect with those themes and experience the holiday in a shared, joyful setting.”

The film has a running time of 1 hour, 39 minutes. The White Theatre offers sensory-friendly resources, including assistive listening devices and noise-canceling headphones available for checkout during the screening. The fully accessible theater features step-free access from the parking lot to all seating.
