The Jewish War Veterans Post 605 would like to announce the March 15 commemoration of the 125th Anniversary of the founding of the Jewish War Veterans of the United States of America.

The Jewish War Veterans (JWV) is the oldest active veterans group in the United States. Founded to commemorate the Jewish soldiers’ participation in the Civil War, the JWV has continued to represent and help Jewish war veterans who served our country up until the present. Jews have served our nation in peace and war since our founding, and it is important that all Americans understand that Jews also shoulder the burdens of our nation, and do not shirk our duty to protect the United States.

In recent years, the JWV, and our post, have added to our mission to try to help all veterans who need assistance. Post 605 has participated in service projects for a number of years to help all veterans in need. The post’s service activities usually culminate in our Holiday Gifts for Vets program, where we give veterans in need essential items to help them transition to a more normal life.

The Post works with the VA hospitals in Kansas City and Leavenworth, and other veteran centers in the area to provide needed supplies and essentials to the veterans in those facilities.

Even during the pandemic, the post continued to provide for needy veterans by substituting Walmart gift cards for essential items (the VA facilities would not allow any item to go into their hospitals). The mission to help veterans does not stop for the post! The JWV looks to the future to continue to represent Jewish veterans, and to further help all those in need who have served our country.
