Today, due to the coronavirus infection spreading, we must yield to the first responders even when we aren’t driving. By actively practicing social distancing, that is staying at home as much as possible,  we stay out of the way of front-line workers so they can aid the sickest in our neighborhoods.

It’s tough to stay away from the movies or brunch at a local eatery or meet at a bar for drinks. Some people act, though, as if social distancing is an optional choice but not a current necessity.

We put countless front-line workers, including hospital staffs, at risk if we ignore the requirements to take good care of ourselves. Let’s act in solidarity to protect our community’s courageous and dedicated professionals who are working for us during a public health crisis.

The people of Spain provide a touching example of what first responders mean to them.  On Sunday, women and men stood at their open windows and balconies applauding gratefully as the cars of responders drove past their homes.

During this national emergency, let’s act responsibly to protect ourselves and just as importantly, the lives of other people in our community.
