Karene Copeland passed away on March 22 after a tough battle at home, the hospital and later the Sky View Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in New York.

Karene was the daughter of Evelyn Dorrit Young (z”l). She was born in Havana, Cuba, where her family arrived during World War II, running away from the Nazis. Karene later settled with her mother in Kansas City, Missouri.

After finishing her studies at the University of Arizona, Karene moved to New York, where she had a successful marketing career. During her career, the companies she represented sent her all over the world. The family often heard her say that these years were the highlight of her life.

Aside from work, Karene also enjoyed going to Broadway shows, concerts at Carnegie Hall and attending the The 92nd Street Y, New York programs.

When Karene decided to entertain, she took the planning very seriously and would bring out different tableware and décor for each holiday. It was then that she also would bring out her quick wit and her delicious sense of humor.

She is survived by her godson, Arieh Greenwald, and her cousin, Monique Halberstein.  Karene is also survived by her wonderful friends who were always by her side, Susan Siskind, Agnes Cullen and Audrey Shaw.

Karene was interred in Miami, Florida, at Mt. Nebo/Miami Memorial Gardens.

If you wish to make a donation in Karene’s memory, please consider the charities very dear to her heart: Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund and American Heart Association.
