Marjorie (Epstein) Sackin passed away peacefully at her home on Feb. 16 at the age of 99.

She was born on Dec. 26, 1924, to her adoring parents, Harry J. and Ellen Epstein. Marjorie lived a life with love and devotion to her family and friends. Nothing made her happier than everyone coming to her home when she hosted family dinners.

As a lifelong Kansas City resident, Marjorie graduated from Southwest High School. After briefly attending the University of Wisconsin, she completed her undergraduate studies at UMKC. After the war, she married Eugene Sackin upon his return from the U.S. Army. They were happily married for 53 years before his death in 2001. Together, they enjoyed golf, tennis and worldwide travels reaching six continents. For many years, Marjorie and Gene held season tickets to the Kansas City Chiefs, Royals and symphony.

Reading was very important to Marjorie. She helped start and run the first library at Hartman Elementary School, until it was later taken over by the school district. She was part of a study group of remarkable women who gathered regularly for more than 50 years to discuss novels.

Marjorie was very involved in the Kansas City community, volunteering as a reading assistant at the Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy and in various positions at the Menorah Hospital gift shop. She knitted scarves every winter for the homeless.

Marjorie is survived by her three children, Steve (Linda), Ken (Teri), and Nancy Oiler (Kent); her grandchildren, Jacob Sackin (Rebecca Silver), Jori Sackin, Dr. Allison Sackin, and Dr. Andrea (Dr. Mark) Schwartz; her great-grandchildren, Gabriel and Casey Sackin and Eli, Ari, and Mya Schwartz; and her nieces, Andrea Katz (Susan Chin), Patty Katz (Eileen Birns) and their son Harrison Katz, and Patty Nelson (Steve). She was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Doris Katz, and her brother-in-law, Jerry Katz.

The family would like to acknowledge and express their everlasting gratitude to Lisa Black, Niesha Ray, Carolyn Collier and Clara Anderson for their devoted caregiving, love and support.

Private family service and burial were held at Rose Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates donations to the Jewish Family Services Food Pantry (5801 W. 115th St. Suite 103, Overland Park, KS 66211). Online condolences may be left for the family at louismemorialchapel.com.
