Howard Steven Hirsekorn passed away on the morning of Sept. 18 at home, surrounded by family.

Following a stage four cancer diagnosis, Howard lived an impressive eight and a half more years thanks to KU oncologist Dr. Raed Al-Rajabi and his medical team.

Howard was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on May 23, 1952, to Henry and Louise Hirsekorn. He attended Southwest High School, Penn Valley Community College and UMKC. He worked for Eckerd Drugs, Payless Cashways and, most recently, Sprint, but he also managed the family business Anchor Roofing for many years. He was proud to be an Eagle Scout, a member of BBYO, a drummer in his high school orchestra and a youth baseball player. He was a life-long Kansas City Royals, Chiefs and Missouri Tigers fan.

Survivors include his wife, Lynda (Hollub) Hirsekorn; children Sydney (Thatcher) Liposchak, Emily (Golan Silverman) Hirsekorn and Jacob (Elise Maletich) Hirsekorn; brother, Robert (Beverly) Hirsekorn; sister, Susan Hirsekorn; grandchildren Joanna and Haley Hirsekorn, Mila Liposchak, and Carmel and Cyrus Silverman; nieces and nephews; many cousins; and much-loved dog, Penny.

For those wanting to make a charitable contribution in Howard’s memory, the family asks to consider the KU Cancer Center or Lucky 13 Dog Rescue.

Shiva was held on Wednesday and Thursday at 6 p.m. Online condolences for the family may be left at louismemorialchapel.com
