Dorothy Blonsky, 95, of Kansas City, Mo., passed away Monday, May 27, 2013.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 28, at The Louis Memorial Chapel, with burial at Kehilath Israel Blue Ridge Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to Kehilath Israel Synagogue, 10501 Conser, Overland Park, KS 66212 or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Mrs. Blonsky was born in Kansas City, Mo., and was a lifelong area resident.
She had a successful career as an outstanding real estate sales representative with Price Brothers Realty. She was a former member of Kehilath Israel Synagogue.
Mrs. Blonsky regarded her outstanding accomplishment to be her two sons. She was a dominant presence in their lives and was responsible for their both attending Yale University. Her son Marshall went on to become a university professor at The New School in New York City. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Mrs. Blonsky was preceded in death by her husband of 77 years, Robert Blonsky, just one month ago on April 30, 2013; by her son Lawrence E. Blonsky in 1995; and by her parents and siblings.
She is survived by her son, Marshall Blonsky, New York City, and by her grandson, Marcus Blonsky, Kansas City, Mo.

Herman Goldfish Herbet of Ohav Sholom Apts., Albany, N.Y., died Sunday, May 26, 2013, at Columbia Memorial Hospital. He was 89.
Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, May 28, Temple Israel, Catskill, N.Y. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Columbia-Greene Counties, 47 Liberty Street, Catskill, NY 12414.
Herman was born in the Bronx, N.Y., a son of the late Frederick and Dora Shearer Goldfish. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Lorraine Hordes on Sept. 16, 1951.
Herman was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in New York City and was a member of the American Postal Workers Union. He was a member of the Co-op City Jewish Center, Bronx, N.Y.
Formerly of the Bronx and Delray Beach, Fla., Herman had lived in Albany since 2011.
Beloved husband of Lorraine Herbet; father of Joyce Federman and her husband Larry of Palenville, N.Y., and David Herbet of Overland Park; brother of Carl Herbet and his wife Judy of Boulder, Colo., and the late Harry Parker and his widow Connie of East Islip, N.Y.; grandfather of Justin (Brooke) Aclin, Jesse Aclin, Joshua Herbet and Asher Herbet; and great-grandfather of Roxanne and Naomi Aclin. And loved by many nieces and nephews.
Herman was a talented artist, which included numerous styles of painting and photography. His many pieces fill his house as well as his families’ and friends’ homes.
He was an avid lover of nature and spending time in the outdoors. He enjoyed playing tennis, bike riding and of course watching his beloved New York Yankees.
Herman loved listening to all types of music, especially classical and jazz, playing his piano and dancing at every opportunity.
Watching a Yankees game, playing cards and spending time with Lorraine, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his main loves. He dearly loved his entire family, drawing great strength from his two brothers.
Herman will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Justin David (JD) Mooney, 81, passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2013, with his family at his bedside in Overland Park. He was born on Feb. 21, 1932, in Kansas City, Mo., to Dr. Justin Loeb Mooney and Phoebe Lighton Mooney.
Funeral services were held at The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah on Sunday, May 26, with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family requests memorial donations be made to The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah or the J.D. Mooney Scholarship at the Hotel & Lodging Association of Greater Kansas City, 1600 Genessee St., Suite 603, Kansas City, MO 64102 or the charity of one’s choice.
JD grew up in Mission Hills, where he graduated from Shawnee Mission North. After high school, he attended the University of Michigan, where he earned both his bachelor’s degree in business administration and an MBA in accounting. Between undergraduate and graduate school JD served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After graduation he began work for Woolf Brothers, initially as a buyer and then as assistant to the president. In 1971, he took over the Mission Inn Motel management and remained its manager/owner until 1991 when he retired.
In 1958, JD married Alayne Kohn in Kansas City, Mo., and they were happily married for 55 years. JD was a lifelong member of The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah, where he served as president of the Brotherhood and received the Man of the Year Award. Additionally, JD was a long-time (and honorary) member of the Temple’s board of directors.
JD was involved in many other areas of service where he was highly recognized and received numerous awards and honors, including the Kansas City’s Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame (1972), Hotel Man of the Year (1980 and 1981) and three other life awards. JD can be found in the Marquis Who’s Who in Finance and Industry.
JD was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Herbert M. Mooney; and his sister, Phoebe Ann Mooney.
He is survived by his much beloved spouse, Alayne; daughter, Jo Ann Mooney (David Spake); son, David Mooney (Barbara); and granddaughters, Hannah Rose Mooney and Avery Spake.

Elinor “Ellie” Navran, a longtime resident of Leawood, died on May 23, 2013. She was 79.
Born on June 29, 1933, in Brooklyn, N.Y., Ellie was the daughter of Harry and Anne Braun Sircus. The family moved from New York to Kansas City in 1940. Ellie graduated from Southwest High School in 1950 and attended Stephens College in Columbia, Mo.
She married Robert H. “Bob” Navran in 1954. She was a devoted full-time homemaker and mother of their three children. She had a keen sense of style, loved fashion and had modeled in fashion shows. Following her passion for couture, she began an 18-year career with Swanson’s and Hall’s department stores in 1987.
Ellie was a caring, loving and compassionate daughter, wife, mother, Nana and friend. She was an empathetic listener and naturally felt and understood others’ concerns and feelings. She was especially concerned about children with unmet needs.
She was a lifelong member of The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah where she was confirmed in 1948 and married in 1954.
Ellie is survived by her husband of 59 years, Bob; three children and their spouses, Jennie and Dan Stolper; Hedy and David Brizendine; and Andy and Tricia Navran, all of the area. She leaves four grandchildren, Alli Hearne and husband Mike; Jeff Stolper and wife Lisa; Mitchell Navran; and Avery Navran. She also is survived by a sister, Manon Mallin; brothers-in-law, Roger Navran and Harold Oppenheim; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 26, at The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah, followed by burial at Rose Hill Cemetery.
