Dolores “Dee” Weiner Bush passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at Kansas City Hospice House.

Funeral services were to be held at 10:30 a.m. today, Thursday, March 7, at The Louis Memorial Chapel, 6830 Troost Avenue, Kansas City, Mo., with burial to follow at Sheffield Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to one of the following: Kehilath Israel Synagogue, 10501 Conser, Overland Park, KS 66212; Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO 64145; or Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 6931 Arlington Road, Bethesda, MD 20814.

A longtime resident of Kansas City, she attended Kansas City public schools, graduating from Paseo High School then attending UMKC.

Dee was married to Louis Nathan Gittleman for 15 years, with whom she had three children, Barbara Gittleman Fenster, Bruce Frederick Gittleman, of blessed memory, and Jody Gittleman.

She lived in Dallas from 1964 to 1980, when she returned to Kansas City and married longtime family friend Martin Bush.

A member of Kehilath Israel Synagogue, she formerly sat on the boards of K.I. Sisterhood and Hadassah.

Having sold wedding and Bar Mitzvah invitations for many years, she prided herself on guiding new clients through the finer points of invitation etiquette. She was known for being an inventive cook and gracious hostess. Even in her last days, she charmed her doctors and nurses with a twinkle in her eye.

The family is very grateful to Kansas City Hospice House, for, in Dee’s words, “a great send-off.”

Dee was preceded in death by her loving husband, Martin Bush; her parents, Martha and Albert Weiner; and a son, Bruce Frederick Gittleman.

She is survived by brother and sister-in-law, Seymour and Felicia Weiner of Kansas City, Mo.; daughters, Barbara Fenster of Las Vegas and Joyce (Jody) Gittleman of the home; stepdaughter, Leslee Gottlieb; stepson, Rick Bush; grandchildren, Marc and Jin Fenster, Eric and Christina Fenster, Aaron and Amber Gottlieb, David Gottlieb and Robyn Gottlieb, Daniel, Ryan and Ashley Bush; great-grandchildren, Maddie and Dani Fenster, Reagan and Reilly Fenster and Mariah Hawkins. Dee also leaves loving nieces, many wonderfully close cousins and warm, loving friends.
