Tillie Skeer passed away in Boca Raton, Fla., surrounded by love and care on Friday, March 1, 2013, at the age of 93.
Services were held Wednesday, March 6, in the Yukon Chapel at Mount Carmel Cemetery. A second shiva service will be held at 7 p.m. tonight, Thursday, March 7, at the Embassy Suites, 10601 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park.
Tillie Seema Feingold was born Aug. 3, 1919, to Sam and Katie Feingold at St. Joseph Hospital in Kansas City, Kan. She graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1936. She attended the University of Illinois, but quit school to come home to the love of her life, Edward Kanter, whom she married Dec. 4, 1938.
She had five daughters, Arlyne Monroe, Brenda Stern, Davi Cohen, Kathy Waisman Bush and Andrea Waisman, and two stepchildren, John and Janey Skeer. She has had a wonderful, loving relationship with her children and considered herself very blessed with them. She leaves two granddaughters, Lori Feitel and Loren Brady, and six grandsons, Eddie Monroe, Eddie Stern, Elliot Stern, Brian Monroe, Joseph Bush and Andrew Bush. Her great grandchildren are Alex, Sam and Abby Feitel and Aiden LaPlante Monroe.
She was predeceased by Edward Kanter (1952), Joseph Waisman (1985) and David Skeer (1997); as well as by her father and mother; brother, Harry Feingold; and sister, Ida Pearl Russell.
A member of The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah and Kehilath Israel Synagogue, she has been actively involved with volunteer work, including National Council of Jewish Women, Jewish Family Services, Jewish Federation (60 years) and other meaningful sources of help for needy people. She was a member of American Jewish Committee, Hadassah, B’nai B’rith, the Anti-Defamation League, Hillel and several other organizations benefitting mankind.
To be a “mensch” was her desire … a person of integrity and compassion.
