Steven Gary Binder, 63, passed away Friday, May 4, 2012, at Kindred Northland Hospital. Graveside services and burial were Sunday, May 6, at Rose Hill Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the Salvation Army, the American Diabetes Association or the Boy Scouts of America. Steven was born to Herman and Bertha Binder in Clarksdale, Miss. The family moved to Kansas City when he was a young child and he remained a lifelong area resident. He graduated from Southwest High School and then joined the U.S. Air Force, serving his country in both Korea and Vietnam. He returned to Kansas City and went to work for the city and attended area junior colleges. Steven met his wife Mary, of 32 years, on a blind date. They married four years later in 1980. They raised two boys and made a home for Steven’s mother, Bertha. He loved to camp and be outdoors with the family, including Bubbie. He loved to cook and visit with other families during those outings, some of whom became lifelong friends. Camping trips included a trip across the United States and into Canada. He is survived by his loving wife Mary, of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Jeremy and Jamie Binder, Grandview, Michael and Sophia Binder, Kansas City, Mo.; sister and brother-in-law, Faye Hariett Levine and husband Morris, Elliott City, Md.; grandchildren, Carissa Binder, Gage and Gabriella Binder, all of Grandview, and Rylan Binder, Kansas City, Mo.; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.
