My father turned 90 years young, and my wife and I welcomed him here to visit.

While here, we had a birthday party for him with family and friends. Did I mention this was his third party in three separate cities? My dad is loved all over the United States!

With help from Roberta Goller and Susan Kivett, he spent a glorious week at the JCC’s Heritage Center. {mprestriction ids="1,3"}The mission of the Heritage Center of the Jewish Community Center is to encourage senior adults ages 65 and above to participate in educational, cultural, spiritual, fitness and social programs in order to decrease the potential for isolation and to increase connection to the Jewish Community. The focus of the program is on self-determination and self-direction in order to promote independence.

He had the time of his life participating in chair yoga, exercise, movies, and internet for the technically terrified. Oy vey, he even played bingo! My mom and grandma would be so proud. He met a friend and most every day the two of them would sit and talk Yiddish. He had a lunch for $5 most every day that was another highlight. The Heritage Center helped arrange transportation to the JCC.

It’s rather ironic that my father spent most of my life raising, teaching, coaching and generally molding me into the man I am today. It is my love and joy to have him here with us, and help him in as many ways while in his senior years. My wife and I would dearly love to have him here full time. That is another story. I love my dad more than life itself, and only want the best for him. So I’m telling you that if you have a parent, grandparent or know of a senior, please give the Heritage Center a try. This is not a commercial or an advertisement. This is to tell our community about a treasure we have in our backyards for the people who gave love to help us grow.

I love you dad, please visit us anytime.{/mprestriction}
